India’s assumption of the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, was a landmark moment for the nation. It was a year-long showcase of India’s rise as a global economic powerhouse. The G20, a premier forum for international economic cooperation between 20 countries, hosted numerous high-profile meetings and initiatives under various themes across the country.
One of the most exciting achievements of India’s presidency was the creation of the Startup20 Engagement Group. This was the first-ever dedicated platform within the G20 framework focused exclusively on startups. This group aims to foster innovation, collaboration, and policy development to support startup ecosystems globally.
My role in a global movement
I was honoured to be selected by the National Startup India Team to contribute to research assessing the dynamic startup environments across the G20 member countries. Over a seven-week internship from November 25, 2022, to January 15, 2023, I conducted an in-depth study of economic, social, and policy factors that influence startup growth and innovation across these diverse nations.
This opportunity allowed me to explore the global startup landscape from multiple perspectives and understanding how different countries nurture entrepreneurship, encourage innovation, and create policies that empower startups to thrive.
Recognition and Impact
My research was acknowledged and appreciated by the National Startup India Team, who noted that I “undoubtedly contributed to the success of the Startup20 Engagement Group.” The research material I gathered and the analysis I made, was used extensively during the discussions conducted under this group This recognition was deeply motivating and strengthened my commitment to the world of startups.
I believe this internship planted the seeds of my journey as a startup founder today by inspiring me to engage with the ecosystem not just locally, but with a global vision.
India’s G20 presidency and the formation of the Startup20 Engagement Group represent significant milestones in promoting entrepreneurship worldwide. For young entrepreneurs like me, such platforms provide invaluable opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow. I am grateful for the experience and look forward to continuing my journey, inspired by the global spirit of innovation and collaboration.
